Before his career became centered on education, Goodly built a foundation in mass communications spanning broadcast journalism, radio, digital music journalism, and cultural programming. His work combined storytelling with a longstanding engagement in Hip Hop culture, creating opportunities to interview influential voices across music, literature, culture, and athletics.
While attending California State University, Fullerton, Goodly hosted and co-produced SOL of Hip Hop on Titan Radio from 2000 to 2004. The nationally recognized college radio program reflected Hip Hop’s connections across generations and disciplines, featuring legendary artists, cultural figures, authors, athletes, and emerging voices.

Goodly’s communications experience later expanded into professional broadcast journalism. As an NBC News producer, he directed live and breaking-news coverage in a professional television newsroom.
